Slow and Steady (sort of)

Yesterday I got up a 5:00 a.m. to meet up with Kathy to run at the Columbia trail. I had 8 on the schedule and did 8.16 because her watch didn't hit 8 at the same time as mine and she wanted to make sure hers was 8 as well. It was a good run I did it in 1:27. When we hit 7.5 (its a 7.5 mile trail and we turned to go back to make it 8) it was 1:20 which is the fastest we've ever run it and I was forcing it to be slower that what felt good to fit into Mcmillan's long run range for me: Long run: 11:12 to 12:12. I kind of gave up on staying in that range around mile 5 because it was just feeling good. I figured it was ok because its a very flat trail and when I'm running at home there are death hills everywhere so if I lived somewhere flat I'd be a faster runner and therefore the faster pace would be my long run pace (nice justification for not following orders, huh?) So here are my splits:

1 - 11:16
2 - 11:21
3 - 10:59
4 - 10:53
5 - 10:33
6 - 10:29
7 - 10:05
8 - 10:19 (started making myself slow down)
.16 - 11:27 (really slowed it down since it was extra anyway)

It's funny, Kathy is a little faster than me and has a really hard time slowing down so in the beginning I kept telling her we needed to stay slower and when I started speeding up she was having a hard time staying faster (since she's new to the distance). She says this is why she likes running with me because if she's ever going to run the longer distances she needs to stay slower. For once my slowness comes in handy!
