Porches

I am a huge fan of porches. In the townhouse I had a porch and now in the new house we have one double the size. I plan on being a 98 year old women chillin' on my porch with my lemonade keeping my eye on the neighbors.

I didn't have a porch growing up but we had a huge bay window that looked out the front. My Baba would sit in her chair in front of it all day and keep watch over the neighborhood. As a kid I couldn't figure out what the hell was so exciting that she could sit there for hours looking outside. Now I know.

I love getting up early on a summer morning and having my coffee out there. On a nice spring or fall day I enjoy sitting outside reading a book. At summer dusk I love to sit and listen to the birds, peepers, frogs and crickets and just look around at the mountains, trees, flowers and grass and maybe drink a margarita or two. It's a place for reflection or meditation. A place where I can have my personal space or I can share it with those close to me.

I live in a really quiet neighborhood so there isn't too much neighborhood action to see but that is fine with me. I sit on my porch and feel like I'm in the mountains in a vacation home and I realize how lucky I am to live in my vacation home and every night after I get home from a crappy commute I'm so happy to be in the country where its so serene and my porch is waiting for me.
