I got out for an absolutely amazing run today which somewhat restored my faith in being able to complete my upcoming races (my time is another story).
I was sort of planning on 8 miles, which meant I hoped I could do 8. I started out slow, I mean really slow. Slower than I have run in ages, but I figured, I need to get 8 done, might as well take it easy so maybe I actually can do it. It's extremely hilly where I live and the route I picked had a decent amount of difficulty. I got to my 4 mile mark and turned around. At about 5.5 I was feeling great and picked it up a bit. Right around 6.5 I was going to go up a 1/4 turn around then go thru a development and hedge row that leads to my house but instead I continued on for another 2.75 miles. It just felt good and I like I could go on forever.
The last mile was absolutely amazing. I started the run off running 11:30's/12's and the last mile I was running about a 9:30 then went down to an 8:30, then down to 7:30 and finished around 8. Considering the distance I covered and my inconsistency I was impressed I had that amount of juice left in me.
I came home and immediately got into an ice bath. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth, I know that the run would cause some serious aches and pains for me if I didn't get in that tub and freeze my tooshy off!
I am feeling way more confidant that I can do ok at Broad Street. I'm still nervous about the Lehigh Half but I plan on a couple more of these runs beforehand so we'll see how it goes!
